Beware! Facebook’s ‘Like’ button invades your web browsing privacy.

One of the most used poplar used features on Facebook.com is the “Like” button. CNET.com reports that the Like Button “tracks” and “collects” your web page visits without even logging in through Facebook’s social plug-ins. It collects the web page address and the visitor’s internet address without even clicking on the like button.

Nicole Ozer, an attorney with the ACLU of Northern California states:

“If you put a Like button on your site, you’re potentially selling out your users’ privacy even if they never press that button….It’s another example of why user control needs to be the default in Facebook.”

Earlier this week, Facebook told CNET:

“…the information about who viewed what pages with a Like button is anonymized after three months and is not shared with or sold to third parties.”

Facebook plans on updating their current privacy policy to make it clearer and simple to understand.

It has been reported that you must pay for a cable subscription to get access to this new video-streaming service.

“We’re a subscription service, and our ongoing overarching objective is to enhance the service to make it better. It’s about enhancing the satisfaction and continuing the life cycle of the subscriber.”

This type of service is also provided by Netflix, a company which offers disc rental and internet streaming with over 670,000 monthly subscribers. Netflix’s subscription rate is $8.99 for 1 DVD out at a time and unlimited instant watching a month.

The only advantage that HBO would have they would offer newer titles as compared to Netflix’s titles. The disadvantage would be shelling out $100+ bucks for watch HBO on your TV and the Internet. HBO has a long road ahead of them to take over the online streaming market. Nice try though. ;)
